1998年熊本県天草市生まれ。4歳でピアノを始める。東京大学法学部卒業。
大学在学中第21回ショパン国際ピアノコンクール in ASIAアジア大会にて銅賞を受賞。第22回日本クラシック音楽コンクールピアノ部門全国大会第2位。第43回熊日学生音楽コンクールにて最優秀賞並びに熊本県知事賞受賞。その他受賞は多数。
セロニアス・モンクやジョン・コルトレーンに強い衝撃を受け、本格的にジャズの演奏を始める。ストレートアヘッドなスウィングを愛し日々研鑽を積み自己の表現を追求しながら、自己のグループをはじめ様々なグループで全国のジャズクラブやジャズフェスティバルに出演している。ジャズのみならず、R&B、ポップスなど幅広いジャンルでライブやレコーディングに参加。作曲・編曲やアーティストへの楽曲提供も手掛けるなど、ジャンルやフィールドを越えて活動の幅を広げている。
これまでにクラシックピアノを袴田和泉氏に師事。横山幸雄、上田晴子、Roland Krüger、市田儀一郎各氏の指導も受ける。ジャズピアノを椎名豊氏に師事。Max IonataやPierrick Pédronのマスタークラスも受ける。
敬愛するジャズジャイアンツは多数、中でも Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, McCoy Tyner, James Williams, Mulgrew Miller に大きな影響を受けた。
Born in 1998 in Amakusa, Kumamoto, Sotaro Hasuike began playing the piano at the age of four. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo.
While at university, he won the Bronze Prize at the Asia Finals of the 21st International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA, Second Prize in the piano division of the 22nd Japan Classical Music Competition National Finals, and both the Grand Prize and the Kumamoto Prefectural Governor’s Award at the 43rd Kumanichi Student Music Competition, among numerous other honors.
Deeply inspired by the music of Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane, he began pursuing jazz in earnest. Continuing to refine his craft and develop his own artistic voice, he now performs with his own ensembles and as a sideman at jazz clubs and festivals throughout Japan.
Beyond jazz, Hasuike is also active in R&B and pop, appearing in numerous live performances and recordings. He continues to expand his creative range across genres and fields through composition, arrangement, and writing music for other artists.
He studied classical piano with Izumi Hakamada and also took lessons from Yukio Yokoyama, Haruko Ueda, Roland Krüger, and Giichiro Ichida. He studied jazz piano with Yutaka Shiina and has also participated in masterclasses led by Max Ionata and Pierrick Pédron.
Among the many jazz greats he admires, he has been particularly influenced by Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, John, Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, James Williams, and Mulgrew Miller.
